Pace Calculator — Running, Walking & Cycling
Calculate running, walking or cycling pace and speed from distance and time.
Fill in your details, then check your personalized result and recommendations.
Formula
Pace = total time ÷ distance
Worked example
30 min ÷ 5 km = 6:00 min/km
What the pace calculator does
Pace is the cornerstone metric for runners, walkers, and cyclists. This calculator converts a distance and a time into your pace in minutes per kilometre and minutes per mile, plus your average speed in kilometres per hour, so you can plan races and training runs precisely.
How the calculation works
Pace is simply total time divided by distance. The tool computes minutes per kilometre, converts that to minutes per mile using the 1.609 km-per-mile factor, and also expresses the result as speed. Pace and speed are two views of the same effort: a lower pace number means you are moving faster.
How to interpret your result
Use pace to set realistic race targets and pacing strategies — for example, knowing your goal marathon pace per kilometre keeps you from starting too fast. Comparing paces across sessions shows fitness gains over time. Remember that hills, wind, and terrain all affect the pace you can sustain.
Training recommendations
Most endurance plans mix easy-paced runs to build aerobic base with faster tempo and interval work to raise your threshold. Track your pace for different distances to find your strengths. Combine this with the Heart Rate calculator to make sure your easy days stay genuinely easy.
FAQ
+What is running pace?
Pace is how long it takes to cover one unit of distance, usually minutes per kilometre or mile.
+How do I convert pace to speed?
Speed (km/h) = 60 ÷ pace (min/km). The calculator does this automatically.
+What's a good 5K pace?
Recreational runners often finish around 6–7 min/km; faster runners go well under 5 min/km.
